5 Essential Aftercare Tips For Cosmetic Treatments

Your post-treatment care plan can be simple and aid your treatment success. With over ten years of experience in plastic surgery, anti-wrinkle, and dermal filler treatments, Nurse Pam has unlocked some key points and a quick guide to post-treatment care. Here are five essential care tips to get patients on the road to glowing recovery.

There is insufficient data to prove a direct link between applying makeup post-treatment and infection. However, after any treatment, avoid any products on the face for 30 minutes, such as cleanser, sunscreen, and makeup. These products are not the issue, but possible infection is unpleasant for the patient and can be better avoided. Therefore, the absence of product use is discouraged as a cautionary measure.

Anti-wrinkle and dermal fillers should be done last when getting treatment done nearby. Any other cosmetic treatment should be done first before injectable treatments, as patients should wait two weeks before another treatment.

Aftercare for anti-wrinkle and dermal fillers should be simple and easy to follow. The plethora of advice can be overly complicated and challenging to adhere to. We provide five easy steps to kickstart your aftercare regime for these procedures.

Aftercare for anti-wrinkle - The “2 and 8” rule.

  • Avoid massaging or applying hard pressure to the injection sites for 2 hours. For example, do not wear tight hats for 2 hours after treatment of the forehead (regular cleaning or application of the product is not considered high pressure).

  • Avoid excessive sweating for 8 hours. Examples: hot room yoga, cardio exercise, saunas, and steam rooms.

Aftercare for dermal fillers

  • Avoid consistent pressure on treatment areas for 24 hours. For example, if dermal filler was used on the nasal bridge, avoid wearing sunglasses for longer than 10 minutes. Also, try not to sleep on your tummy for a few days, as squishing on your face can disturb the filler.

  • Excellent Compress treatment can be used in treatment areas. Please refer to the topic “Cool Compress” for more information.

  • If you’ve been instructed to massage the treatment area, use a moisturising antiseptic cream (be cautious if you have sensitive skin).

Aftercare for Sculptra treatment

  • Massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times per day for 5 days after your treatment, according to your Cosmetic Practitioner’s advice. You can use moisturising cream to reduce friction when massaging.

General Aftercare for Cosmetic Treatments

  • Avoid sun and UV sunlamp exposure until swelling and redness have resolved.

  • Avoid sauna/steam rooms for 24 hours.

  • For post dermal filler and Sculptra, it is recommended that within the first 24 hours after your treatment to apply an ice pack or ice wrapped in a cloth (avoid putting ice directly on your skin) to the treatment area to help reduce swelling.
